Newspaper Notice 88 years Born May 17, 1922 entered into the heavenly courts on July 23, 2010. Predeceased by Edna C. his wife of 63 years. Survived by his only daughter Mary Johnson Grundle and seven sons; David F. (Margie), Stephen (Shawnette), Rev. William S.J., Andrew (Marybeth), J. Joseph (Magalis), Peter, and Francis X. (Sheila). Also survived by brother Jerome (the late Ruth) and brother-in-law of Bert (Mary) Strom, twenty one grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Red grew up in the Irish Merrill Park neighborhood and lived on the East Side of Milwaukee for 65 years. He resided at the Milwaukee Catholic Home for the past two and one half years. He attended St. Rose grade school, St. John Cathedral H.S. and Marquette University. During WWII, Red served in the Navy in the South Pacific as a Morse Code Specialist. He was a disabled American Vet, VFW and American Legion member. His long career included pharmaceutical sales, fire and alarm systems, and he spent 30 years at the UWM campus where he finally retired at age 75.
Red was dedicated to his large family. He thoroughly enjoyed his grandchildren and just loved matching wits with the little ones. He had a keen sense of humor and a playful demeanor. He was also a semi-professional napper, a trait that his passed on to all of us. Music was a huge part of Red’s daily life. He enjoyed everything from classical, jazz, rock and roll, country and more. He couldn’t resist a good cha-cha beat and would grab Edna and dance around the house. Red was a most pleasant and even-tempered fellow who was “always himself”. In the end, he followed his own advice. He always told us to leave the party while we were still having fun.
The Johnson family would like to send a very special “thank you” to those gorgeous people on Special Care at the Milwaukee Catholic Home. They took such beautiful care of our father.
